Yes, definitely try the Flexon frames, and to keep them on his face instead of in his hands, use an eyeglass strap--usually sold at eyeglass retailers. My brother had to wear glasses starting as a small child, and we found the strap helped keep the glasses on in all kinds of conditions.
The biggest thing is to have a talk with your child about why wearing the glasses is important. If he understands why he has to wear them, then he's less likely to try to break them in the first place. Correct the behavior behind the breaking, otherwise he'll just try to continue it with his new glasses--and lenses are breakable.
