Sun tanning tips

I know this might not be the most healthy thing, but I don't care. I see people smoke, ride motorcycles, do drugs, drive fast, over eat and a bunch of other unhealthy things, I should be able to do one thing (I've always had a farmer's tan for the past 25 years).

That said, what tips does everyone have on getting a good suntan? I've noticed when the UV level was 3 during the winter in Arizona, it would take me 2.5-3 hours to get a little red. And when it is 9, I get red in 50 minutes or so. (check weather.com on your local page for this info)

You can use sun screen to 'cover' the areas that might be already tan or you really don't want to get burned.

I've found a place far away and hidden from where any person will come across me, so no tan lines. But it is still close enough that it only takes me 20 minutes to get there.

Drink lots of water, and use a sun block on your lips. And shave prior to getting some sun as well.

Does anybody know how long a suntan will last for? And how often you should lay out? Any other advice?
