I finally figured it out.. It's a glitch.
I had to adjust the icon spacing, then keep clicking on the "align to grid" and "arrange" buttons... Windows wasn't updating the desktop, even when you hit refresh.
It was a bit of a PITA, but I'm going to try the Icon program mentioned. I'm sick of redoing them after playing some games!!
