Getting published

Basically, i'm about half way through writing a comedy book (currently standing at around 33,000 words) on various aspects of the teen/early 20's world, a few older bits of which are dotted around the TFP. I've had alot of positive feedback from various people over it, the whole prospect is generally an insiders piss-take, so to speak, with the odd bit of science thrown in for good measure.

Currently it's on hold, as i have far too much revision for exams to be spending any serious time on it, but when i finish, it shouldn't be too hard to complete with the rediculous amount of free time i will be having over the summer.

When it does get finished, i will be looking to get it published, and i have been wondering mainly what type of timescale would i be looking at from acceptance to printing (in the broadest sense), is there any pitfalls i should be looking out for in this genre of writing, and any other nuggets that anyone feels imparting?

I don't think it will be a no.1 best seller, but it would certainly be something to be proud of.
