Getting published
Basically, i'm about half way through writing a comedy book (currently standing at around 33,000 words) on various aspects of the teen/early 20's world, a few older bits of which are dotted around the TFP. I've had alot of positive feedback from various people over it, the whole prospect is generally an insiders piss-take, so to speak, with the odd bit of science thrown in for good measure.
Currently it's on hold, as i have far too much revision for exams to be spending any serious time on it, but when i finish, it shouldn't be too hard to complete with the rediculous amount of free time i will be having over the summer. When it does get finished, i will be looking to get it published, and i have been wondering mainly what type of timescale would i be looking at from acceptance to printing (in the broadest sense), is there any pitfalls i should be looking out for in this genre of writing, and any other nuggets that anyone feels imparting? I don't think it will be a no.1 best seller, but it would certainly be something to be proud of.

Stevie, if your book would be viewed positively by teens, there is a huge market for that genre. These books are making their way to the movie theatres too, such as "Girls in Pants."
I read recently about one possible resource for you to look into. Alloy Entertainment initially packaged writers for publishing companies, but I believe they are now publishing themselves for the teen market. You can find some info here: http://www.alloymarketing.com/entertainment/index.html Good luck and keep us posted, please. |
