It never meant much to me, until I saw some old veterans marching.
I think now - it means an appreciation of the sorrow and loss that others have experienced doing what they saw as their duty (if not their legal obligation).
I'm not entirely sure that everyone sees it in quite the same way.
One thing that bothers me now is that there are less of the old guys. I worry that those generations (men and women) probably had a greater appreciation of the negative aspects of war and nationalism than some of those that have grown up since.
