Pentium 4 1.6
512 mb RAM
60 GB HDD (divided in 20 GB and 40 GB)
Windows 98 SE
Geforce 4 MX 420

It all started some days ago when norton 2000 started to crash almost every single time I tried to run it, so I decided to unistall it, but the norton unistall file got overwrited by the netscape unistall file (same name for both files, both files located at c:\windows), therefore I couldn't unistall norton

So i manually deleted norton and installed norton 2001, and thats when all the crashing began, after that my programs keep on crashing all the time, especially netscape, explorer, iexplorer, and Diablo II, I unistalled norton but things still crash....

So I decided to reinstall WIN 98 without formating, and still the same crashs are there....

the reason why i don't want to format is because I have about 20 GB of ROMs, warez, mp3s, and porn, and I don't fell like burning over 20 cds...

So anyway I talked with some guy who told me I should try to boot my comp on MS-DOS, deltree the windows folder and reinstall windows 98, but if i do that is there any change I will lose some of the stuff on my HDD? do you guys think this will solve my problem?
