I don't really think it's bad for people to 'not know' or 'not care' about their cultural identity. I mean, I am of the 'white' race (well, and Mexican). I'm guessing that makes me Native North/South American, Spanish, English, Italian, and maybe Swedish. I really am not sure, though. I suppose if you're an immigrant it makes sense, but what if you're just an American?
I feel sorry for you that people don't want to make racist jokes around you. It's all the PC liberals about. I would just try to tell my friends that it's okay, or maybe start making some myself (starting out with a bunch of different races so you don't appear racist).
Try joking with those security guards, and cheerfully point out that they're sliming all over you.
If a place doesn't give you a job application, threaten to sue. Maybe where you live it's a bit different, but here places seem to be willing to hire stoners that don't know what they're doing over competent people; I'm sure black people are the least of their worries.
