I generally wouldn't bother buying guns online. It's better to support you local brick and mortar stores. Unless you have a friend who is an FFL that is willing to do transfers on the cheap you will end up spending more on an FFL transfer and shipping then you would if you had paid the brick and mortar premium (there are always exceptionaly good deals). A good gun store will also help you out with any problems you may have with a new or used gun, and they can also help you work out kinks with the manufacturers. Believe me I know, half of the guns I bought have been defective.
The best of both worlds is to frequent online forums classified sections looking for sellers who live in your state. That way you can buy the gun FTF with no FFL and see it in advance (Subject to state law).
