Actually areal, I believe the concept of race is important...it really defines you as a person. Not your personality, but it makes up the identity. Stereotypes are indeed inevitable and that should just get the hell out of the society, but race and ethnicity and culture and all the rest of it is very relevant to our lives. A girl in my school is japanese. She is so completely whitewashed, there is nothig about her that's japanese except her physical appearance. I don't mean she's not japanese by not liking pokemon and RPGs and j-pop and whatnot...it's the fact that she knows othing about her background...like japanese history, language, customs...NOTHING, and that's tragic.
In summary: liking rock and computers is a part of the personality...being a part of a certain race shouldn't make a difference, but race is important because it gives you a historical background, and that should still be respected...but not stereotyped.
