hold on to your drink, and don't accept drinks you didn't see poured by the bartender. (or at all even)
Purse I don't know about, since I'm a guy.. coat check usually works, or leave it with a friend who doesn't dance.
How to dance? let the music move you
put on some of the type of music you like at home, and dance a bit. It'll help your confidence. And remember, nobody is usually good at dancing, and everyone looks like a fool, so don't worry about it.
