I am the manager at my store. I just bought one on our second shipment on December 12th. It sucked to wait 2 weeks, but I was too lazy to pre-order at a competitor during the summer.
I of course got a 10% discount off retail.

I think people's disappointment stems from the fact that they didn't buy a PS2 at launch when it was hot. The games for that system were even bigger piles of shit. At least COD2 and PGR are good, if lacking replay value.
Oblivion and Gears of War hit in 4 weeks, 360 production is finally back up, so you should see sales of systems and games really hit a high point.
