When they are still tiny, you should wrap them to put them to sleep - in summer this can be done with a light muslin wrap. That way they can't move. In hospital, some of the midwives wrap the new borns so tight that their is no chance of moving - this is the recommended approach...
Our son was only in the bassinet for a short period of time - about 2 or 3 weeks, then moved into the cot - we just didn't think the bassinet was that comfortable looking...
If you tuck the sheets/blankets in so that they are placed with their feet almost touching the end, there is no real way they can be tangled up in them and if they move it is just to end up being uncovered...
