Transition from bassinett to cot
I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for changing from bassinett to cot. I have an 11wk old little boy who is needing to go into his cot now as he is growing so fast.
Im wondering if i should expect any problems with this change or if it should go smoothly |

my sister and mom were talking about this
a couple of weeks ago. My mom said she should move her son to the crib after he can roll over from his stomach to his back and vice versa and no blankets, pillows, or toys just to be safe

I agree, the rolling over is usually my cue to get out the crib (I love hearing/reading the word cot, but it's habit over here in the US to call it a crib!)
If you have had baby in your room, do you intend to keep the cot in your room also? If the cot is going in another room, I would set it up and then work the bassinet into the other room first, so he's only dealing with one change first. If baby doesn't seem to notice the difference of not being in your room, then you should be fine to start trying him right in the cot at night. This will be even easier if he's not used to hearing your sounds at night and has always been in his own room. If the cot will remain with you in your room, then again you will just be able to try him in there. Sometimes it's best to let him take naps in the cot first, to let him get used to the feel of it slowly, then you can start trying nights. I hope that helps somewhat. You may be lucky and be able to just set him right up, if not those are the things I have done to try to make the transition easier. Good luck!

We had absolutely no problem going from one to the other. In fact, he slept better in his crib than in his bassinette. The bassinet rocked, and everytime he stirred or flinched (due to the "Moro Reflex") he would wake himself up. Not so in the crib.
As long as the environment where the crib (cot?) is, is the same, you shouldn't have much to worry about. Good luck.

We never used a bassinet, so the crib transition was unnecessary. Our daughter has been in the crib since birth. Once she can roll over, however, it will be cleared out

Bassinet to crib wasn't a problem for either kid. The big change was getting them into "big beds".
Never had a problem with stuff being in the crib with the baby. It's too cold here so blankets are needed.

When they are still tiny, you should wrap them to put them to sleep - in summer this can be done with a light muslin wrap. That way they can't move. In hospital, some of the midwives wrap the new borns so tight that their is no chance of moving - this is the recommended approach...
Our son was only in the bassinet for a short period of time - about 2 or 3 weeks, then moved into the cot - we just didn't think the bassinet was that comfortable looking... If you tuck the sheets/blankets in so that they are placed with their feet almost touching the end, there is no real way they can be tangled up in them and if they move it is just to end up being uncovered...
