Why ever have an election?
Certainly if the results are going to be the same...why ever bring it to the population.
I don't get this point of view.
Democratically, it makes much more sense to have an election when we have a situation like we do now then having one at an arbitrarily chose point somewhere out in the future (5 years for Canada).
It is the situation that Canada is in politically that requires an election.
Don't you all get it. There is no party that holds a mojority of the seats in the house of commons. This means that there is no party in Canada that can claim to represent over 50% of the ridings in Canada (based on our political system we can't do this based on population but it happens to be the same case with population right now - i.e. there is no single party that can claim the support of a majority fo the population).
Currently, however, there are 3 parties that can together claim that they represent a majority of the ridings in Canada. The MPs that represent these ridings were elected by you, the people. The MPs are supposed to represent what you, the people, believe.
So it looks like, based on our political system, the majority of Canadians are not happy with the way the minority of Canadians are runnign the country.
Isn't this the perfect time for an election?
Even if it ends with the same results?
An election is the only point in time you, as Canadians, have a chance to hold your government accountable.
