I had HPV and severe cervical dysplasia when I was 19. That was almost 10 years ago and eight years before I had sex because I was terrified of what I could end up with. I worked in HIV/AIDS services for a year right after that time and that was great birth control for me. As bad as a gynocology visit can be once a year, it's better to go to that one then be stuck going every three months for the next two years. I hated going because I was really small and it was extremely painful. Had I sucked it up and just gone when I started to have symptoms instead of waiting a year until my next check up, I'd have saved myself a world of trouble. I also ended up with chronic systemic yeast after the surgery for dysplasia. Every time I went to the dentist I got thrush, and there was yeast in my sinuses. Ugh! It took six years to clear that up. Just DON'T wait if you have even the tiniest concern.
