Education.
99% of the time, it's not social engineering, it's not clever talking, it's not manipulating a young mind, it's a stupid parent who never taught their kids the proper safety tools for using the computer. There's nothing else to be blamed on successful child predators, or predators that elicit info from minors, but bad parenting. If a kid gives out personal information, it's because their parents never took the time to educate them on the proper use of the computer. With proper education, the chance of coercion is minute.
This issue mostly pisses me off because so many parents want to blame the internet, want to blame society, want to blame everyone under the sun, when prevention starts with education, pure and simple. It also disturbs me when parents say they can't be bothered... can't be bothered with the safety of their child? They find it stupid that they have to go through a lot to keep their kids safe? Well, you know what, it's not a perfect world- and if you're going to grant a minor access to the ENTIRE WORLD at once, you'd better prepare them for the world you just thrust them into.
