this is not new news... this has been going on since newsgroups over a 1200 baud connection were the way to connect with the outside world... The internet and the ease of use of chat applications and the lax parenting just make it a lot easier.
The internet you can be whomever you want to be... the truth is not always in front of your face... and the anonynimity makes people a lot bolder than they would be in real life.
I haven't played in an AOL chatroom in years because I need the brain cells that I have... but one of the last times I did.. when I entered as myself-- a late 30s single female, I wasn't interesting to anyone.. so when I became.. a 17 year old curious nymphette. who I all I did was say hello and bat my eyelashes -- i could't keep up with the barrage if private messages I got.
