Tough cookies. Which one of us *isn't* racist? I think i try pretty damn hard, but the culture i'm soaking in is deeply divided and racialized. My culture, academic training puts me with more and more white folks, more and more economic advantage, and then asks me why i'm all alone with a bunch of people who look just like me. Gender relations in African American communities...are a worth question, and have deeply problematic issues of gender in racial idenities and conflicts. But to ask *any* question about black cultures without substantial reference to the formative pressure of racialized culture? All I saw in your original post was a bunch of stereotypes thrown together.
PS. It's "Somali" not "Somalian" And there's raging debate as to if they are "black" in the American social construction of the term.
