Well, if you've got X amount of trees, and the resource increases at a very slow rate, and the demand for trees is constantly increasing (since the population continues to increase), does it make sense to keep hacking away at forests?
ART says we shouldn't sacrifice "at the expense of current human populations." But which would be better: to limit paper use now, and have prices rise 20%, or hack away for ten years and wait till the the price for paper goes to $6 a sheet?
(Side note: ever wonder why fish/shrimp is so expensive? When 25 years ago you could feed your family cocktail salads for nothing?)
