Truth be told, many "pop" songs actually aren't badly written, just poorly produced. When you hear a rock group cover a pop song (ie Fountains of Wayne covering "Baby, one more time") you can see some of the merits of the songwriting. Problem is, that decent songs are ruined by shoddy producers whose musical talent lies solely in knowing how to use Pro Tools.
And btw, Sgt. Pepper may be considered "pop" now, but it certainly wasn't when it came out.
I think what Britney is trying to say is that ANYONE can write "OK Computer" or "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots", but a song like "Lucky" comes around once in a lifetime....

1. of course some producers DO know how to use Pro Tools. trent reznor. there ARE (were?) really good pop songwriters. todd rundgren, brian wilson, etc.
2. it is easy to forget thingies like that, Sgt. Pepper was not considered pop, but there are artistic songs on it, and maybe they were sitting down.
3. yeah, imagine trying to write another song like the Spice Girls did. i really really really wanna zig-ah-zig-ah. they do NOT write 'em like that anymore!
