I don't believe Dell will fix it for free or under warranty because they have to assume there was abuse, intentional or otherwise. Screens just don't magically "break".

I had a regional sales rep drop his laptop from a few inches above the ground and the screen broke. The replacement parts for me to put a new screen on the laptop cost around $450 or so. Not too bad considering the overall price of the laptop.

The Dell Parts and Upgrades phone number is 800-357-3355, at least thats what I have in my contacts list.
