Yeah, DOSBox should pick up the mouse and use a wrapper. If I had to pick a culprit I'd say your DOSBox install may be set up wrong.

My Logitech MX-500 USB mouse works fine with it. you're right that within DOS it's very difficult to get any USB peripherals to work (you'd have to script the chipset drivers yourself to allow the USB devices to interface and that's no walk in the park) but DOSBox is an emulator so that doesn't apply.
