My 18 month old just went from a crib to matress on floor to a todler bed (with a side board nesr the head of the bed), and she seems to do ok with the todler bed, even though most mornings I put her back in bed before I go to work, as she gets off the bed during the night She has never fallen out hard enough to wake up crying, so i don't know if she slides off or wakes a litlle then gets off, but she seems to be staying on more often now.
