Two satellites crossing each other's orbits? As the westbound satellite crossed in front of the northbound satellite, it eclipsed the light you'd see from the westbound satellite. Nothing says it has to be one object? It could be 4 objects, acting independently.. but only visible in that section of the sky where ozone/atmosphere isn't obfuscating your view.
