Call HP. Offer to send a copy of your receipt. They'll often work with people in weird situations. Definitely get it documented that you have purchase proof that doesn't match what they have on file. If something in the laptop fails before November it'll increase the chance HP will help you.
Best Buy is a nightmare. If the laptop dies and you're facing a big loss take them to small claims court. If nothing fails before November you lucked out. Otherwise the communication with HP will probably be enough that they'll cover it under warranty.

The propaganda that inundates them is effective when unchallenged, but much of it goes only skin deep. If they can be brought to raise questions and apply their decent instincts and basic intelligence, many people quickly escape the confines of the doctrinal system and are willing to do something to help others who are really suffering and oppressed." -Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media, p. 195
