Thanks to a post by Troublebot (I think that's the login) in the thread on "Best Zombie Movie of all time" where he suggested that everyone check out The Walking Dead, I picked up the 1st trade (issues 1 - 6). I read it all in one sitting and went out (I think the same day, but possibly the next day) and picked up the 2nd trade (issues 7 - 12). I never really read comics much at all when I was younger, but it sounded like something I'd like and I was right.

I agree that I like the art in the first trade, done by Tony Moore, more than the 2nd trade's art, done by Charlie Adlard, but Adlard's art has grown on me.

When I bought the 2nd trade, I think the individual issues were up to #17. Being hooked and not wanting to wait for the 3rd trade, I went out and tracked down issues 13 - 17 individually. I think the 3rd trade (13 - 18) came out not too long after issue 18 came out, so just waiting and buying trades is a possible way to go instead of buying individual issues, but the wait for a trade while the 6 issues that will make up that trade come out would be kinda rough.

I'm not planning on picking up the 3rd trade since I already have the individual issues. The trade has nothing extra that the issues don't (at least I'm pretty sure on that). The nice thing about them is that they collect all the issues in one book and they have their own really cool cover artwork. The issues are really the way to go though:

-you get the nice cover artwork on each one (done by Tony Moore, the original TWD artist, who still does all the covers on the issues and trades for whatever reason)
-the letters section is in the issues but not in the trades. The letters section is huge (according to what I've read, it's possibly the biggest in any currently running comic and many don't even have a letters section).
-the issues also have started occassionally (maybe once every 3 issues?) including a character sheet with a short synopsis of details that are updated every time the listing is printed.

Grendel, you can find some The Walking Dead discussion here:

Robert Kirkman himself frequently posts there. They've got a cover art thread, a little bit of fan art, and there's a thread there with release dates of Kirkman comic books (although the person who started it hasn't updated it in a while).

I'd like to hear about other comic recommendations from other people as well. Doesn't necessarily have to be about zombies.

Oh, and this thread needs a bit of color, so here's one cover (issue 5, I believe; if I posted some of my favorite later covers, there might be a few spoilers):
