ok, i know this series has been mentioned in a few threads, but having just finished the 2nd trade, i think it's time that it had a thread of its own (rather than continuing to stick it into the Land of the Dead topic).
i used to buy comics as a youngster, but it's been a good 20 years since i've bought anything on a regular basis. i have 2 boys now that are into the whole superhero thing, so from time to time i stop into a small local comics shop to pick up a current issue of some Batman or Spider-Man related book, but that's about it. I always look around a bit to see if anything might interest me, but it's pretty overwhelming. Heck, even in picking out that occasional Batman book, it seems that there are a dozen or so different tiitles to choose from.
so, anyway, on a recent trip, I ran into the first trade of TWD. being a big horror fan when it comes to fiction and movies (and particularly keen on zombie things), i figured i'd give it a try and i am REALLY enjoying this series, although the change in art from the first trade to the second was a little bit of an adjustment. some of the characters i had become acquainted with in the first trade looked different suddenly - like watching a TV show with the same characters but different actors playing them. also, i have to say that i liked the art in the first trade a bit more than that of the second, but the story is still top notch.
i know there's a third trade out there, and i'll be picking it up soon, but...
i'm not really sure where to go on TWD... will trades keep coming out as the story progresses? am i better off just trying to pick up the regular issues from that point forward?
oh, i had another selfish reason for starting this thread and that was to hopefully get some suggestions on other things to try out - whether regular books or trades. like i said, it's been a while for me... i have the crow, the watchmen, the dark knight returns, a few others, but i'm looking to get back into the comics thing a bit. i've considered picking up some of the sin city or hellboy trades because i dug those movies (and some other frank miller bits)...
so, anybody have some favorites they'd like to share? my local comics store would thank you!
