This might not go over well here, but I'll let you in on a secret that kept me from being homeless for my first two years of college job seeking: Lie your ass off.
"I'm transferring to the college in this area, so I want to have a job that will last me for the next few years." *3 months later* "I have chosen not to transfer, goodbye."
I have no regrets. I'm an honest person otherwise, and a completely honest worker. I did it for two jobs- and for those two by the end of the 2nd week, I was the best employee in the entire building. Also, nothing was that blunt in execution. For both jobs, I was hired through a job fair or employment agency (hired by the company to get employees). When I actually showed up for the job, the managers assumed I'd be leaving in 3 months anyway. They had no control over who was hired. Corporate headquarters sent down new employees every once in a while...
If I didn't get those jobs I wouldn't be in college right now. It's a matter of survival.
*rant time* People ages 18-20something have ruined the job market for others in the age group. I'm not a loser. I will come to work on time, do my job, not slack off, and be nice to customers. I don't have neon colored hair or piercings (No offense to those who do. However, reality is that it does effect your chances of getting hired in some places). If I'm hired, you'll get a wonderful employee. The kids of yesteryear have ruined things for the kids of today. *end rant*
