The whole reason people aren't "independent" until they're 18 is because they need someone to guide them (although there are parents who really don't care about that). I'm all in favor of consent laws, because when you're fifteen and horny you really aren't in the right mindset to realize when someone is taking advantage of you. Now, I really like it when people can make their own decisions about stuff (I am a libertarian after all) BUT sometimes there needs to be restrictions in place to protect people who don't know they need to be protected. If IFgLC says it's ok for a twenty year old and a seventeen year old to be dating, are they then going on to say that it's ok for a fourty year old and an eight year old? I mean, how young is too young to be learning about your sexuality? Who's going to put a limit on it? There are some people out there who like the idea of being sexual with two year olds- is IFgLC going to say that's not ok? I really dislike orginizations that want to wipe out all restrictions in one fell swoop- laws are there for a reason.
