Buying computer for Grandparents

I am looking to purchase a computer for my grandparents, although there's a few things i need to take into account. First off, they're completely computer illterate, so they need some kind of training prorgam, i imagine? Also, they live on the otherside of Australia, so i need someone to help set it up and install it for them and also to have a good onsite service/gaurentee in case something goes wrong.

The basic use is going to be for web-surfing, reading emails and some minor office stuff - like maybe spreadsheets or writing word documents. So there's only need for a pertty basic set up that can run pretty efficeintly. In the past i've built computers from individual parts, so i've got no experience from buying from a reseller direct and have them set up the machine etc for you. I was wondering where some other good palces too look for or deals people may recommended. I've had a quick look-see at dell and compaq/hp although some their basic models seem to be a little overkill for the intended application (2.8ghz with 512 mb ram etc) - although maybe that's the minimum nowadays?

Anyway thanks for any leads/recommendations
