Have you heard they can make synthetic diamonds now that are almost indistinguisable from the real thing? The only way you can tell is to hook them up to a special machine that DeBeers has come up with (cause they're scared to death what this might do to their monopoly) I read about it in Wired Magazine about six months ago- I don't know if they're commercially avalable yet, but I do know they're about $10 a carat.
