Moissanite cracking?

I am looking for an alternative stone for an engagement ring that is similar to a diamond. It does not have to pass as a diamond, but it has to be in the same vein so that it is clearly an engagement ring.
I was looking at the following piece:
http://www.titaniumera.com/order/ord...d-certina.html

The company does offer Moissanite as an option on its other rings but it does not on this one. When I called them and asked why they said that they had problems with the larger moissanite stones cracking. Is this true? They refuse to put a moissanite stone in, but I am considering taking it to another jeweler to get one put in. Anyone know what is going on?

I gotta say that is one kick-ass looking ring.

There are types of sapphire i think that are either totally clear or near clear.

Years ago I knew someone who worked in a dental office and put her ring in the ultrasonic cleaner to clean it often.

One day it was all cloudy. Turns out it was full of micro-cracks.

It was a cubic zarconia and her husband never told her it wasn't a real diamond. Opps.

She knows, and I gave her the option of having a diamond.
A. She doesn't want to waste the money (and I mean a diamond is a waste of money).
B. She doesn't want to support a monopoly, especially one that relies on slavery and destruction of the environment.

I'm not claiming you are going to fake the ring, it was more a story about the cracking.

They may have a good reason for not doing it, as very hard materials are often very brittle.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only woman who sees this. I can't comprehend wearing diamond, especially if the inexperienced eye cannot differ it from cubic zirconia.
After all, it isn't the gift, but whats in the heart of the giver.

Have you heard they can make synthetic diamonds now that are almost indistinguisable from the real thing? The only way you can tell is to hook them up to a special machine that DeBeers has come up with (cause they're scared to death what this might do to their monopoly) I read about it in Wired Magazine about six months ago- I don't know if they're commercially avalable yet, but I do know they're about $10 a carat. Happy engagement ring hunting!
