Wiggle the cable from the CD to the main board to 'clean' it.
If not better - remove it and reseat it. Do this carefully if there is no plug, just a cable with carbon connectors. Only do this once.
You may have to lift a piece of plastic first.
You are desperate at this point so go ahead and try it.
