Liquid - was your girlfriend the one asking you not to go to deep? Lot's of respect for taking your time and keeping it comfortable for her.
Grab some lube, be somewhere you know you will be alone for an hour or more and take your time with her. She may be embarrased about trying different positions just yet but keep this in mind: if your having sex in missionary (the standard) position, once you are comfortably inside of her and on top of her, you can slowly move your body up so that your hips are about 1 inch higher than hers.
