Xtreme Xmen.. i believe that is where a few of the "missing" team members were. They split off from the Xmen to do something that was terribly important and they couldn't let Professor Xavier know about it (especially after the whole onslaught thing). A mutant with precognative powers, Destiny, made thirteen diaries that foretell the future of humanity and mutantkind. Mystique tried to decipher these diaries, which are in pictograms, illustrations, and languages even Destiny did not fully understand. This drove her crazy and she mailed the books to Xavier, thinking that if he solves their mysteries, the world would be a better place. But if he can't and he goes crazy like she did, all the better. Xavier can't be allowed to have these books, since he would use their knowledge to try to change the world, or could go crazy and create another Onslaught, and that can't be good for anyone.
