Iannis Xenakis- it's the most intense music you'll ever hear. I can't name a particular work, but look for him. He's still a living composer, and he's very modern. It's hard to describe without hearing it-look for a work he did for electrified string quartet. In that same direction, check out George Crumb's Black Angels.
