This involves changing a registry entry, so use at your own risk. I would recommend creating a reg file to change during use and another to change back after.
Under XP Pro SP2 the Registry entry in question is:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\MCI32]
They key in question is:
"AVIVideo"="mciavi32.dll"
Change this entry to:
"AVIVideo"="mciavi.drv"
This should work for Rock Vid Grid, etc.
Funny thing is there is a MCI Registry entry with the correct item, but apparently only the MCI32 entry is passed to Vid Grid.
Also, depending on your video card you may have to switch to 640 x 480 and 256 colors.
Enjoy!
