mci avi question
I recently found one of my favorite old cd's..."Country Vid Grid." I'm not too wild about most of the songs, but I like the puzzle process, which divides the screen into grids which you then click on and move into their proper place, kind of like one of those old sliding tiles children games.
Anyway, I'm running Windows XP on a Dell PC and the CD plays the videos, but cannot scramble them. The error message comes up saying the mci_avi drive will not allow the procedure. I have no idea where to start. I ran a check on the mciavi drive and it's listed as being there, but I don't know how to run a diagnostic to check it. Do I need to reload that part of Windows? Is it possible to fix this? Am I forever doomed to watch "The Mavericks" sing "Crying Shame" without having their faces in the wrong places? Suggestions?

I ran into the same problem with my Rock Vid Grid. This is a great game but running Win XP on my Dell Dimension 2400 I get that same error.
"The currently installed MCIAVI does not support the MCI_AVI_SETVIDEO_DRAW_PROCEDURE command during play." I really enjoy playing this game so any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Solution found!
This involves changing a registry entry, so use at your own risk. I would recommend creating a reg file to change during use and another to change back after.
Under XP Pro SP2 the Registry entry in question is: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\MCI32] They key in question is: "AVIVideo"="mciavi32.dll" Change this entry to: "AVIVideo"="mciavi.drv" This should work for Rock Vid Grid, etc. Funny thing is there is a MCI Registry entry with the correct item, but apparently only the MCI32 entry is passed to Vid Grid. Also, depending on your video card you may have to switch to 640 x 480 and 256 colors. Enjoy! Last edited by LyonZ; 04-29-2005 at 01:35 PM.. |

Vid grid
Hey Lyonz,
I saw your solution posted for the vid grid crisis and was wondering if you could post a step-by-step instruction to solve the "The currently installed MCIAVI does not support the MCI_AVI_SETVIDEO_DRAW_PROCEDURE command during play." problem. For instance, where can I find [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\MCI32]? and what is "AVIVideo"="mciavi32.dll"? It would be appreciated. |
