Why not buy a used PS2 instead?
There's two in my backwater at the local game exchange shop for about $60 console + controller.
That way you could play PS1 and PS2 games.
Personally I wouldn't buy a used playstation. I'm pretty easy on consoles, but I've been through 3 different playstations over the years. There's just no telling what you'll really get and what kind of shape it's really in.
