Is a used PS One Worth Buying?
Hi all. I've been thinking about buying a used PS1 at GameStop. I play a lot of PC games but don't know if I would get into a console. I had a Playstation years ago but then if croaked. I don't want to shell out a lot of money for an XBox or a PS2 until I know that I would use the thing. I don't mind spending 40 bucks on a PS1 but are there any good games that would still be considered playable nowdays? Opinions?

There's plenty of games available for the PS1. If you only want to try it out, then it would be fine. If you do buy it, make sure it works before you leave the store. Personally, I wouldn't buy a used PS1, but that's my opinion, I'd prefer to buy a PS2 or something else. I still have my Sega genesis, and play games, so buying something old and playing isn't really so bad. The graphics of course won't be so good, but the games are still good.

Why not buy a used PS2 instead?
There's two in my backwater at the local game exchange shop for about $60 console + controller. That way you could play PS1 and PS2 games. Personally I wouldn't buy a used playstation. I'm pretty easy on consoles, but I've been through 3 different playstations over the years. There's just no telling what you'll really get and what kind of shape it's really in.

I guess if a PS1 is what you want, go for it. I'd look for a new one instead of a used one. New ones have been running right at $50 in my neck of the woods for the last year or two.

I would say a used ps2 would be much better just because it can play ps1 and ps2 games. Also your computer can probably emulated ps games no problem. I could do it on a 1 ghz machine with a geforce 2, so given your specs, no problem. Prices for all current gen game systems will probably drop around the time Xbox 360 is released for the christmas time, so that would probably be the time to get an xbox or a ps2.

I agree with everyone saying to get a used PS2. I've been through about five PS1's in my past. I'm still on my first PS2, which I bought used.
