I find that calorie counting is the only way for me to keep things under control.
That being said, I like to eat the same types of things every day so that I don't have to count calories all of the time. I try to keep my intake between 1500 and 2000 per day. If I want to lose a few pounds (and I do, for summer) I need to not go over 1500.
Also, exercise is important. You MUST commit to 4 days a week at the very minimum and do something that gets your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes.
