I'm with you Maleficient, Bob Hurley has walked the walk and has not just touched, but literally saved the lives of kids that everyone else gave up on. Thanks for the heads up on the book - I will look for it. By the way - if not for his son I would have turned my back on the Blue Devils altogether! Laettner - bleh.
My fav sports story isn't so much inspiring as just touching. I'm an OSU alum, and when Eddie George went to the NFL, his mother refused to quit her flight attendant job at TWA. Wasn't proper to quit a job, she thought. She worked every day to raise Eddie and his siblings on her own, no reason to quit now. The day Eddie signed his first contract, worth Heisman millions obviously, his mother called him and said she couldn't come to the big event because she had to work an extra flight. Eddie was crushed, this was the day he wanted to give his moms his whole life, but he knew not to argue with her about it. Eddie's agent got on the phone without him knowing and argued with her for an hour before finally convincing her that should be with Eddie on that important day, July 1996. The agent sent a plane for her and she surprised Eddie at the signing...
It wasn't until after dinner they heard that TWA Flight 800 had crashed with no survivors. That was her flight. Still gives me chills...
