I've seen both extremes.
A friend of mine absolutely refused to believe she was pregnant despite several visits to the doctor that informed her otherwise.
She suffered from morning sickness, gained weight, basically underwent all the physical changes that accompany pregnancy, but she kept menstrating. It wasn't until her boyfriend (the kid's father) took her to get an ultrasound and she actually saw the kid with her own eyes that she accepted that she was pregnant.
One of my cousins went the other direction. Despite contrary evidence, she believed she was pregnant. She rebuffed the negative pregnancy tests, the doctor's opinion and such with what seemed like perfectly sound logic. Pregnancy tests are fallable and doctor's can be wrong. It went on for about six months, when for whatever reason, she quietly let the subject drop.
I guess we (humans) can rationalize just about anything if we put our minds to it.
