i used it and mint is definitely the way to go--the plain gum is nasty. i used nicorette for about 2 weeks and rarely needed it at after that. i'd say it took about a month before i didn't use it at all.
i picked up smoking again about 6 months after i quit. really, i just enjoy smoking, i quit for my sig. other which is a bad reason. if you aren't ready, don't bother cause even if you manage to quit for a while, you'll just pick up the habit again.
my brother quit when i did and he also used the gum, two years later and he's still not smoking. he needed gum for longer than i did, about 2 or 3 months i'd say. no way he could have quit without it.
