Nicorette, has anyone tried it?
Well today is the big day. I bought the Nicorette gum last night and my wife and I went out in style. I had a half a pack left last night so we got drunk and finished them off. I woke up at 8:15 and now it's 11:30 and I'm doing fine. I'm currently on my second piece of gum and it's been pretty easy so far. Usually I would have had 3-4 smokes already.
From a cost perspespective it is about the same. A package of 110 pieces cost me $38. It should last a little less than two weeks which was about how long a carton lasts me. I pay $34 (no sales tax on the res which is on the way home) for a carton. I guess there is a generic version of the nicorette for about $10 cheaper too. I was wondering if anyone out there has tried the gum and how sucessfull it was for you guys. |

Well, I don't mean to discourage you in any way... I think you are making a great move in quitting smoking. I have actually tried the gum before and I gave up on it quickly because of the taste. I couldn't stand it.... I found that the cold turkey method worked best for me. I have also known others that the gum has failed for, but everyone has a different method for quitting. The important part is to keep up the drive not to smoke. I know it can be hard sometimes, but I do wish you luck!

I've used it for long plane flights, and found that, for me at least, while it took the edge off of the cravings, it didn't get rid of them. But maybe that was just me?

So far the taste has been fine. I think they may have made some improvements. This stuff is the 'mint' flavor and it's cool.
Apparently the gum also cures hangovers. I had a massive headache this morning. Grabbed 3 asprin and left for work. On the way there I noticed that the headache was gone. When I got to work I found the asprin in my pockets still. |

Nothing is gonna make you quit, You have to wanna quit. If you wanna quit, you don't need nothing.
I know people who have smoked there whole lives and then they just stop..Because they want to quit. My buddy went out and got that prescription for Zyban, which is suppose to be the best thing to help you quit and expensive as hell, He's still smoking. I just believe that the only way to quit is if you truly want to quit. I'm not tryin to sound like i'm going against you, Just telling you what i have seen from people who have quit and people who have/are trying to quit. As much as i hate smoking and would like to quit, There's times i enjoy having a cigarette. Especially after eating a meal.

I've never tried it myself.
The only complaint I've heard (and this is from a co-worker) is that it gave him headaches. Of course, he popped them like Chicklets. I'd imagine his casual use of it is what made him sick to his stomach and gave him the headaches. Personally, I've had no luck with smoking supplements. I quit smoking cigarettes cold turkey about four years ago although I still enjoy the occasional cigar. As I understand it, the first 48 hours without nicotine (while it's being filtered out of your system) is the hardest. I quit over a weekend and drank lots of water. I don't know if it helped, but I got through just fine. I was cranky as hell and kept catching myself snacking, but it was worth it in the end.

i used it and mint is definitely the way to go--the plain gum is nasty. i used nicorette for about 2 weeks and rarely needed it at after that. i'd say it took about a month before i didn't use it at all.
i picked up smoking again about 6 months after i quit. really, i just enjoy smoking, i quit for my sig. other which is a bad reason. if you aren't ready, don't bother cause even if you manage to quit for a while, you'll just pick up the habit again. my brother quit when i did and he also used the gum, two years later and he's still not smoking. he needed gum for longer than i did, about 2 or 3 months i'd say. no way he could have quit without it. |
