As I Lay Dying has nothing to do with screamo. They are generic, but they're a generic
metalcore band. They don't use a drum machine, but their drummer uses triggers, which is why their drums sound so fake.
To the original poster: check out Still Remains and most of the other bands mentioned in this thread (Unearth, Shadows Fall, All That Remains are good suggestions). You also might want to listen to 3 Inches of Blood, they play really old-school metal in the vein of Iron Maiden but there's definitely some Gothenburg influence there.
