good melodic metal
Anyone know of any good melodic metal. I like the black dahlia murder, unearth, and darkest hour, as well as the melodic parts of between the buried and me. Anyone know of anything that sounds like between the buried and me, without the grindy caucophony.

Opeth are incredible. Black Dahlia Murder are also insanely good. Uhm... what else... Morbid Angel have their melodic moments (and also their insanely, ridiculously, amazingly heavy ones)... Arch Enemy are very melodic and technical on their album Burning Bridges... ooh, LAMB OF GOD are very much like the Black Dahlia Murder, I'd recommend all their music. Outstanding stuff.

I've been a big fan of what I have known to melodic metal for quite some time. However, no one else has been able to suggest a song or artist to me that fit my idea of what melodic metal was.
Nightwish is operatic metal. The songs "Gethsemane" "Over the Hills and Far Away" and "Phantom of the Opera" are amoung my favorites. The singer in this band has a great voice. She was at one time an opera singer. Also, check out Dimmu Borgir's "Hybrid Stigmata - The Apostasy" and "Puritania" and The Kovenant's "New World Order," "Jihad" and "The Human Abstract" These two bands both make use of melodies very well IMO. Also try looking into Apocalyptica, they are also known as the 4 Chellos. They basicly play metal on Chello. Their best song IMO is "The Hall of the Mountain King." Apocalyptica rarely has any singing, so their music needs to be full of melody. |

Blind Guardian - if you like operatic metal like Nightwish, you can't help but like Blind Guardian. Check out "A Night at the Opera" and "Nightfall in Middle Earth".
Evergrey - a Scandinavian gothic metal band that creates very melodic songs, but their lyrics sometimes sound a bit silly (doesn't really bother me). Check out "Recreation Day".

Melodic death metal, eh? I suppose you already listen to In Flames then. If you don't... go grab "Clayman" and "Colony" (and "Reroute to Remain", which is more melodic and less death metalish)!
Alkaiser, RE: dragonforce - you might also like a German power-metal band called Gamma Ray. Check out "A Blast From The Past" (its really a "best of" type of album, but its a great way to tell if this band is for you).

the reason why as i lay dying's drums sound like they were produced by a machine is because of the production, which is a bit too digital sounding at times, but as i lay dying still kick ass anyway

Doubt it is as "hard"(for lack of better term) as you are looking for, but Savatage does GREAT stuff if you are looking for something a bit more melodic. Give their album "Edge of Thorns" a listen to. It is the one that turned me into a fan, and most the hard core metal heads I know love them to, so they migt be right up your ally.

The Farmer Boys are a band from Germany who sing in English. They have an incredible singer, who guest sang with Apocalyptica on "Hope Vol. 2" and they have I think 3 albums out, all of which are spectacular...it's got a touch of 80's pop in it...synth strings and keyboards and stuff...it's awesome!
Also, Joe Satriani, Dream Theater, Steve Vai- I've never heard them but they have a reputation of being very musical with great guitar tone. |

You could go old school melodic death ala Edge of Sanity, or anything Dan Swano related for that matter. Can't go wrong with At The Gates or any of those Gothenburg style melodic bands. Newer bands like Kalmah also kick much ass.

I agree completely with Dream Theater, Evergrey, and In Flames. All excellent choices.
I'm gonna throw out some good solid melodic hard rock/metal (no dark Swedish stuff here).... Iron Maiden. Many of their songs have some amazing harmonies and melodies Racer-X. Insane solos + nice chops. Queensryche. I might be reaching a little on this one, but here's another vote for a progressive metal band. Sinergy. Melodic metal with a female singer |

To the original poster: check out Still Remains and most of the other bands mentioned in this thread (Unearth, Shadows Fall, All That Remains are good suggestions). You also might want to listen to 3 Inches of Blood, they play really old-school metal in the vein of Iron Maiden but there's definitely some Gothenburg influence there. |

[QUOTE=Ramallah]As I Lay Dying has nothing to do with screamo. They are generic, but they're a generic metalcore band. They don't use a drum machine, but their drummer uses triggers, which is why their drums sound so fake.[\QUOTE] Label or not, I know tons of bands who have used drum triggers and do not sound as bad as they do. But it doesn't matter, either you like it or you don't. Something about them just warms my blood enough to get a bit pissed.
