Is the President of the USA supposed to worry about how a non offensive had signal is recieved by the rest of the world?
I believe there are bigger things for him to worry about.
If you were to offer your left hand to a person from India they would be terribly offended even if you had no knowledge of their culture.
It is a harmless gesture, it doesn't mean anything offensive.
