Cop cars don't need to be speed demons. Remember the old adage...you can't out run a radio. If they are chasing you and they want you bad enough...you will be caught.
Besides when you look at just what kind of cars they typically will have to chase...it's not going to take much to run down an Altima or Civic driven by somebody who know how to handle a car at high speeds.
And here in Texas the people that really need the fast cars have them. I remember the old Fox body Mustang Police interceptors from the 80s and now there are a good bit of Camaro interceptors here.
